SPECIAL
PROJECTS 9
Mauchline
Primary School.
The
Project: To give full blackout via 4 x roof lights,
while also giving a solar heat reduction when required.
The windows, which are 27 metres wide by 1500 drop, run
at 45 degrees.
The
Answer: The IBS / ERCO system. One blind per window,
each 27 metres wide. We used a white cloth giving 100% blackout,
while giving maximum solar reflection. Each blind employs
1 motor per window, and a one-piece blind cloth with no
joins. All are operated by remote control.
The
Result: 100% blackout; and because there are no spaces
between brackets, we achieved maximum heat and glare reduction.
We also achieved an 8.5% p.a. carbon saving. (This calculation
was determined using the Shade Specifier Programme developed
by the British Blind & Shutter Association.)
We
also fitted four high level roof lights that are 8 metres
wide by 3 metres drop using the same system.
